Intraurethrale Sphinkterprothese gewinnt den senetics Innovation Award 2025
At the Medical Technology 2025 Cooperation Congress in Ansbach, Alexander Preis from the FAPS Chair (ESI member Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Franke) was awarded first place in the senetics Innovation Awards 2025 for his research into an intraurethral sphincter prosthesis for the treatment of urinary incontinence. The award is presented by senetics healthcare group GmbH & Co. KG and under the patronage of the Bavarian State Ministry of Health, Care, and Prevention.
The intraurethral sphincter prosthesis researched by Alexander Preis, Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Reitelshöfer, Prof. Dr. med. Ralf Rieker, and Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Ebert is ushering in a paradigm shift in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence and is characterized by a minimally invasive approach that allows for outpatient implantation. Unlike previous solutions, which mainly address men, the novel implant can be used regardless of gender and does not require a lengthy healing phase before it can be used. In addition, the system impresses with its intuitive usability, which can significantly improve the quality of life of those affected.
