There is a special day at the start of the second half of the year when business, research, and politics come together in Erlangen. The goal: to develop strategies for success for Germany’s small and medium-sized enterprises. The event: the Weltmarkführer Innovation Day. It will take place for the first time on October 29, 2026, at the headquarters of Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) at Freyeslebenstraße 1 in Erlangen.

In the afternoon, FAU researchers—including two ESI members—will take advantage of the home game to open their labs to the public as part of an “Innovation Walk,” showcasing research in the fields of energy supply, medical technology, and chip design. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the journey from product concept to market readiness and to discuss these topics with the researchers. Participants include

  • Prof. Dr. Alessandro Del Vecchio (Professor for Neuromuscular Physiology and Neural Interfacing)
  • Prof. Dr. Matthias Luther (Chair for Electrical Energy Systems)
  • Prof. Dr. Jürgen Teich (Chair for Hardware-Software-Co-Design)
  • Prof. Dr. Nicolas Vogel (Chair for Interfaces and Particle-Technology)

In addition to networking opportunities, the afternoon will also offer insights into the next generation of AI and will conclude with a keynote address by Provadis Managing Director Alexander Huper on the role of education in the race for innovation: “No upscaling without upskilling.”
